Gas Discharge Tubes

A gas discharge tube (GDT) is a sealed device with a glass enclosure and contains a gas mixture between two electrodes. It operates by ionizing the gas with an applied voltage sufficient to cause electrical conduction. It follows the principle related to electric discharge in gases. A GDT provides high voltage transient surge protection in devices and it is designed to dissipate large amounts of energy. It is used to protect sensitive equipment from hazardous transient voltages.
