TRIACs

A TRIAC is a three terminal semiconductor device for controlling current. TRIAC is the acronym of "triode for alternating current". A TRIAC can switch both halves of an AC waveform and a single component can be used for full AC switching. The TRIACs are used in many electrical switching applications such as light dimmers, speed controls for electric fans, speed controls for other electric motors, and in the modern computerized control circuits of many household small and major appliances.
