Industrial communication: industrial Ethernet, TSN, OCP/UA
Critical advantage in industrial communications
FPGAs hold a critical advantage in industrial communications as all protocols in this field can be implemented in an FPGA with a high degree of flexibility. Industrial Ethernet is a prime example of this. EBV Elektronik has been active in this field for many years for example with its Mercury platform, with different development platforms, customers can easily evaluate and test different protocols such as EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, Powerlink, ProfiBus, ProfiNet, Sercos III for their applications. With Industry 4.0, deterministic Ethernet (TSN) will first be used on PLC to PLC communication using OPC/UA, but has a good chance to be used in devices as well. EBV provides solutions for today’s requirements which are ready for tomorrow’s needs.

Electrical drives and motor control
Reference designs in the drive control field
EBV Elektronik has already developed several reference designs in the field of drive controls. One of the best-known reference designs is FalconEye, in which highly effective and dynamic drive controls algorithms are mapped to the hardware and software of an FPGA. Not only does the FPGA manage the drive control itself, it also performs the industrial communication, for example via a fieldbus including all necessary protocols, and additionally handles the encoder feedback. The wide portfolio of DSPs and microcontrollers complements this offering to find the best solution for a specific requirement.

Functional safety
Functional safety plays a pivotal role in many industrial applications
EBV support their customers through the process of designing systems that require compliance with safety standards such as ISO 26262 or IEC 61508. To accelerate and simplify your safety certification process, EBV together with its suppliers and partners offers Functional Safety Data Packages that drastically shorten development time and reduce certification risks in safety-critical industrial applications, such as industrial servo and inverter drives, safety devices, and automation controllers.

PLC
Programmable logic controllers (PLCs) are at the heart of a factory control network
A modern PLC architecture requires calculation power as well as support for multiple specialized peripherals, backplanes, and other custom interfaces. Also it usually implements an HMI-solution with different display/entry-combinations. A heterogeneous platform including an FPGA allows you to implement all requirements even in a single device, enabling the reduction of system power, cost, and board space.
